Real Estate Photography Technique: Leafy-Green Backyard

The week’s image was taken during a daytime shoot of a two-storey home nestled in bushland. It is a simple composition that places the subject in the centre of the frame using a wide-angle lens to capture the lush greenery surrounding the home.

The purpose of the image was to highlight the amount of greenery surrounding the home. Five bracketed images were captured as the bright sky (peeking through the branches) was significantly brighter than the foreground of the image and some features of the rear facade.

The image was captured at mid-morning while the sun was shining down from the right-hand side onto the façade of the home, large garden bed and trees to the left.

The simple composition places the house in the centre of the image with the surrounding greenery clearly filling the majority of the remaining grid squares when the rule of thirds grid is applied to the image.

The angled left and right side of the roof meeting in the centre of the image adds a subtle touch of vertical symmetry to the image.

The outdoor patio is visible on the right-hand side of the house to highlight this relaxing outdoor space to the viewer.

The garden path enters the image from the bottom left-hand corner and helps lead the viewers eye along the garden/path the rear porch in the centre of the Image.

Almost the entire boarder of the image is occupied by the greenery surrounding the home which enhances the ‘leafy-green’ feeling of the backyard space.
